23 Snapshots of San Francisco
I really loved this story. I thought it was well written, entertaining and moving. When I got to the end I was incredibly moved by the line "It's important, this moment. Every stupid detail about it. It's you and me, unwilling to forget we're alive." It says a lot about humanity that we value being alive and we cling to memories in order to do so.
I though memories were incredibly prevalent in this story as a way that humans stay alive, thrive and specifically stay human. The narrator often states that he doesn't remember parts of his life or self because they have faded and that these pictures keep him alive and human. I completely agree with this point. To be human is to have memories, to create a personality from the experiences we have had and the ones we hope to have in the future. People often look back at their pasts as way to define themselves and this would not exist without memories. People who loose their memories often become a shell of themselves, never whole.
I thought it was a great way to examine humanity; through the eyes of our memories. I know I will often make future decisions based on what I feel defines me and how far I have come.
