In "The Yellow Wall Paper," I found the narrator's description of the room interesting. She calls it a nursery and playroom for children, yet the description of the room is more accurate with a jail cell. I think she is making two points here. One, she is describing, indirectly, the position that her husband (who represents society at large) is putting her in. He is treating her like a child placing her in a room for children. Gilman could be making the point that society treats women as though they are children who are incapable of making decisions and must have someone in authority make those decisions for them. Two, Gilman is revealing how women felt about the position society placed them into. Instead of being a safe, secure, and fun place like a nursery is to a child, women feel trapped like prisoners in a horrible prison of which there is no escape.
