Twenty-Three Snapshots of San Francisco (6)

In "Twenty-Three Snapshots of San Francisco," there is a big indication of how much information a single photograph can give us about the events that took place during the time it was taken. According the the narrator, "Photographs connect us to the past.." (83), however, what if they also foreshadow events that have yet to occur? While reading this short story it came to my attention the descriptions that were given about the narrator's neighbor, his girlfriend, and his best friend. In both snapshot number 4 and 5 there are information about how both Mr. Sumpter's (neighbor) and Bradley's (best friend) eyes were red in the picture, which in most causes we would connect to the idea of monsters or demons. Furthermore, in snapshot number 11 there is talk about how there was some figure that looked like someone standing in an awkward position behind Bradley, yet the narrator couldn't recall someone standing there at the time. All of these descriptions fit the idea of what zombies would look like, which is exactly what Mr. Sumpter and Bradley later turn into. This thought of the narrator's picture foreshadowing events was also demonstrated with May (girlfriend) in snapshot 11, where there is information about how she's staring out the window at the road. For, it was later told in snapshot 19 that she had gotten on a truck for refugees, which can show the connection to her staring out at the road.
